5:30 p.m.  Our Heroes’ Tree

7:00 p.m.  Conversations Across Generations

 

The Our Heroes’ Tree Program at 5:30 p.m. will feature donated and created ornaments on the patriotic Heroes’ Tree. Participants are encouraged to bring an ornament, copy of a picture or a story about a loved one who has served or is serving our country. Ornaments can also be made at the program and added to the tree. Any Veteran or service person wishing to share a story or a memory will have the opportunity to have that memory recorded on audiotape or videotape. The shared stories will be used in a future project honoring Veterans and will be made a part of the Local History and Genealogy collection.

 

The second program at 7:00 p.m. is a viewing of the Ball State Project, Conversations Across Generations: The Cantigny First Division Project Oral History. This moving video was created by students reaching out to hear and record the stories of Veterans. Discussion will follow.

 

Art @ Kennedy

Beaty is an art student at Ball State University and is an employee of Muncie Public Library. If you are a local artist or part of an art organization and would like to display your art at Kennedy Library or Maring-Hunt Library, stop by either location to make an appointment with the display coordinator. To display art at Kennedy Library contact Harriette Harra at hharra@munpl.org. To display art at Maring-Hunt Library contact Katherine Mitchell at kmitchell@munpl.org. Guidelines and policies are in place regarding the subject matter of art displayed and availability of space.

Free Tax Help is Coming to MPL!

The VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program offers free one-on-one tax help for people with low to moderate incomes. VITA will hold several tax help sessions at Muncie Public Library throughout February, March and April. Dr. Paul Parkison, retired Ball State University Accounting Professor, oversees this volunteer-based program. Call 759-8620 for more information.

Banned Books Week & Meet the Authors Event

  In observance of banned books week, Muncie Public Library will host a Meet the Authors program October 4 at 3:30 p.m. at Carnegie Library. Guest authors will be Shirley A. and Wayne A. Wiegand, who wrote Books on Trial: Red Scare in the Heartland. Co-sponsor of this event is Ball State University. The authors will also speak October 4 at 7 p.m. at Bracken Library.
