Indiana's Lincoln Exhibit
Indiana (Lincoln’s childhood home) and the rest of America, will honor Abraham Lincoln’s 200th birthday (February 12, 2009) with a bicentennial celebration that kicks off in February 2008 and continues through 2010. Stop by Maring-Hunt Library during regular Library hours from July 7-August 31 to experience “The Lincoln Family Album,” an interactive and hands-on display for the whole family.

Flotation Device by Dana Wright-Wiggans
Come and visit Maring-Hunt Library from now until November 30. The Traveling Exhibition of the Hoosier Salon is on display. Nearly 20 works of art, some small and some quite large are framed and ready for viewing. See fine examples of Indiana artists’ work, (like those shown in this post) including oils, acrylics, pastels and water colors. Portraits, still lifes, landscapes and other subjects are well-represented.

Night Travelers by Ronald Mack
The Hoosier Salon is an organization that promotes the appreciation of Hoosier artists and promotes art appreciation in communities and schools across the state. Ribbons on the wall next to each piece of art shows any prizes the art received in a juried art show designed to select “Hoosier Art at Its Best.” Do you agree with the selections?
Be sure to stop at the Circulation Desk or the Reference Desk for a beautiful full-color booklet highlighting the entire Hoosier Salon competition.

It started with a book discussion focusing on post-partum depression. It has turned into a Depression Support Group offering hope and caring to anyone who would like to join. Down Came the Rain, is the memoir of post-partum depression written by Brooke Shields. Her book was the basis for a support group that began meeting at Carnegie Library in September. The group expanded to include any individuals who are struggling with depression or have had loved ones touched by depression. Leading the group discussions are caring people from Delaware County Mental Health Association, a part of Mental Health Association America of Indiana.
****The group meetings have ceased at this time. If they resume, we will let you know! *****

The Muncie Public Library is looking for a few good volunteers to assist with our Homebound program. This program helps provide customers of all ages who are unable to travel freely to the Library with a selection of Library materials and home delivery of those materials at least once a month. We currently serve about 40 customers and are looking to add support for about 30 more.
Volunteers will need to have their own transportation and will help with selecting, delivering and picking up materials one time per month. Training and assistance is provided by the Muncie Public Library.
If you are looking for a meaningful opportunity to give something back to our community, please consider volunteering with us. Call Linda Dailey at 765.747.8214 for an opportunity to help out.
