Explore the new eReaders you’ve been hearing about! eReaders, such as the Kindle and Sony Readers are electronic devices that contain whole books that you view page by page.

Kennedy Library collection now has a Kindle Reader preloaded with current and bestselling fiction titles. A Sony Reader loaded with current and bestselling non-fiction is also available at Kennedy Library.

Maring-Hunt Library collection now has a Sony Reader preloaded with current and bestselling fiction.

eReaders can only be checked out by those 18 years or older and customers may want to review the handling instructions and replacement costs before checking the items out. Checkout times are for 14 days and there is sure to be a waiting list for those wishing to check out this latest technology. To reserve/hold go to the MPL catalog, enter Kindle or Sony Reader to see if the equipment is available and to see what titles have been loaded onto each device. Then use your card number to place your hold.

Muncie Public Library is proud to offer this service to our customers and we welcome your feedback with a comment card packed into each eReader package. Let us know what you think.

Volunteers Strongly Needed to Help Elementary Students

September 11, 2009

Have you heard the buzz about the HIVE?

Volunteers are strongly needed to read to Muncie elementary students and/or help with math skills.

The HIVE is a reading- and math-oriented help center at Maring-Hunt Library for elementary students.

Youth Services staff at the Library coordinate weekly appointments between volunteers and students needing help at Maring-Hunt Library. Students bring their homework or come to the library to get extra help practicing math or reading by listening to stories read aloud or reading aloud to volunteers.

Any interested adult with at least a high school diploma who works well with children and is willing to complete a required background check will be considered.

Current/former teachers, education students, or those with some experience with children preferred. We have a waiting list of students seeking help, so please contact us right away  at 741-5150 or stop by Maring-Hunt Library to pick up a volunteer application.
